🏆 Eye on the Prize

When you build something new, you are nose to the grindstone with your creation and it is easy to lose sight of the big picture—but you need to keep your eye on the prize and the outcomes you’re after.

Get clear on what you're chasing, and why you're chasing it, before you get too deep into the day-to-day work of creating content and products while building your audience. That's important, because you don't want the path you're on to ever become more important than the outcomes you're after. Megan Hyatt Miller frames it this way:

The way to achieve our goals is to hold them tightly and our strategies loosely.

What’s Your Goal?

You may have a long-term, big picture vision you're pursuing, or you may simply have a desire too make a living from your work, or make the world a better place.

To make progress towards those big picture outcomes, you need to set short-term milestones to pursue. So, in the next 90 days, do you want to focus on growing your email list or launching a new product or getting more sales for products you already have?

Whatever that goal is, that is the outcome you are after. There are a dozen different ways (or more) to achieve that result. That doesn't mean you should change your strategy every time you hit a roadblock, but it does mean you need to stay focused on the outcome and be willing to change tactics when you're not making progress towards your goal.

There is no shame or failure in changing tactics, the most successful entrepreneurs do this quarterly or monthly to stay committed to the outcome and neutral on the path to get there. What would that look like for you?
